HEC Montréal (École des Hautes Études Commerciales), the affiliated business school of the Université de Montréal, is the first management School of Canada. It holds accreditations from AACSB International (United States), EQUIS (Europe) and AMBA (United Kingdom), one of only two schools in North America to hold triple accreditation in management education.[citation needed] The full name of HEC Montreal was École des Hautes Études Commerciales; the school was renamed HEC Montréal in 2002. The name was standardized to differentiate it from the other HEC institutions such as HEC Paris and HEC Lausanne. Locally, the school is known as HEC (roughly pronounced "Ash-eh-say").

HEC Montréal's MBA program was also listed among the Top 20 non-US MBA programs in Forbes' 2005 B-Schools rankings (biennial rankings) [2]. The school has also been ranked among the Top B-Schools by Wall Street Journal and the Economist Intelligence Unit (the business information arm of The Economist Group). HEC Montréal is a part of an elite group of 9 Canadian B-Schools reviewed by the http://www.canadianmba.com/. However, the school is notably absent from the Financial Times top 100 list.
[edit] Buildings
In 1996, HEC Montréal moved to an ultra-modern, futuristic $100-million building. It is situated at 3000 Côte-Sainte-Catherine (map), next to the Université-de-Montréal Metro Station. The architect was the Romanian-born Dan S. Hanganu, who said about the design, "HEC Montréal is a temple of knowledge". "This building energizes people," said Jean-Marie Toulouse, former director of HEC Montréal, who called the school's former building "a bunker". The "bunker" is now used as a secondary building (called the Decelles Building), situated at 5255 Decelles (map).
