The name is derived from the names he chose when he first used IRC. When using mIRC you are asked for a nickname and an alternative nickname of use if the first is in use by someone else. Having never used IRC before he had no idea what names would be in use and thought that is was much of a heads & tails situation. So the first nickname he chose was Head with an alternative nickname of Tails.

However he soon learnt, like all small children, to make faces :-) This he found quite enjoyable and he soon began to grin :D ... he thought he was so cool and he put on his sunglasses BD and changed his first nickname to HeBD and his alternative nickname to HeBDsTail. That was in the year 2000 and to this day he is still uses the nickname HeBD to show that He is a cool and happy dude.
