Even without participating in any programs, there are many ways to act Esperanzian!

  • Leaving someone a supportive note when they are stressed out. (See Stress Alerts below)
  • Welcoming genuinely new users who have tested things out at the sandbox.
  • Helping out new users in a friendly fashion who are confused about Wikipedia policy.
  • Leaving a smile or other image for a user who needs some time to relax.
  • Uphold the ideas of other programs such as the Kindness Campaign and the Welcoming committee.
Click a program below for more information.

The Coffee Lounge is Esperanza's own online coffee lounge, where you can relax, take a break from editing, and chat about just about everything (except Wikipedia) with your fellow Wikipedians and Esperanzians. There are also many games and activities to participate in.

Project page: Admin Coaching

Admin Coaching is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users (often, but not always, admins) who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

It is a program where experienced users help people to learn the ways of Wikipedia. While being better versed in the various contributions expected of a prospective admin will help your RfA succeed, Admin Coaching does not guarantee that you will pass the RfA. Ultimately, this is your responsibility, not the responsibility of your coach. So if you come here looking for a personal coach in order to pass RFA, you're at the wrong place.

Consider signing up to be an a coach or a coachee (but especially a coach, as they are in high demand!)

Project page: Barnstar Brigade

Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, like RfA participation, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in.

Project page: Collaboration of the Month

The Esperanza Collaboration of the Month is an effort to help Esperanza become more useful to the actual encyclopedia. The basic idea is this: a poor article or stub with potential will be chosen once a month and all Esperanzians who choose to be a part of this project will begin work on it. The goal is to make it a GA class article by the end of the month. Also, if the article is popular among the users and they want to continue working on it, we may select it again to improve to FA class.

Project page: Happy Birthday

Esperanzians can use the Calendar to add their birthdays, First Edit Days, and Adminship Anniversaries. The calendar can also be used to highlight holidays.

The Esperanza Birthday Committee works with the Wikipedia Birthday Committee to wish the community greetings on their special days.

Join the fun and help make a user's day brighter.

Project page: Stress Alerts

If you notice that a Wikipedia user is showing signs of stress, taking a wikibreak, or considering leaving the project altogether, please add the user to the appropriate list below so that the Esperanza community can intervene with encouraging comments and suggestions. You are welcome to add your own username to any of the lists if you wish to receive support from the community. Or if someone else has added your user name to the list and you wish to be left alone, you may remove yourself from the list.

Project page: To-do List

The Esperanza To-do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an arguementative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few!

Project page: Trading Spaces

Trading Spaces is a project that was originally started by Esperanza and was moved to the User Page Help WikiProject. It is a resource for users to have their user page improved and to help improve others' pages. Check out this project's new home.

Project page: Tutorial Drive

In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza is having a Tutorial Drive! Is there some aspect of editing Wikipedia that you're really good at, and can explain easily to other people? Then write a tutorial for it - it's easy! Just describe the process in a simple way, make a page for it within your userspace, and add it to the list.

Project page: User Page Award

This project awards users with great user pages and injects some fun into our Wikipedia lives. Five volunteer judges choose the winning user page from 15 nominated user pages.

This is a program to make users feel good about their user pages, which so many of us work hard on to make look nice, and to help users know who we are on Wikipedia. Please nominate yourself or a friend. Volunteer to become a judge, and most of all, have fun!
