Talk:Heavy water reactor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is a myth that nuclear fuel used in Operation Smiling Buddha was produced using a CANDU reactor. "Congressional Record, July 19, 1976, p. S11790" explicitly states that a CIRUS (Canada India Research United States) was the source of the plutonium.
This is fairly redundant, as most of this can either by found by looking up Deuterium, or having highschool chemistry "Deuterium is an isotope of hydrogen. Most hydrogen atoms have a nucleus that consists of only a single proton, but deuterium has a proton and a neutron, which makes it approximately twice as heavy as a regular hydrogen atom. Heavy water has two atoms of deuterium bonded to an oxygen atom." Firepup (talk) 15:44, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
