I agree, it's a little over the top. I also note that the phrase is still in use by Americans (e.g. referring to Iraq, Afghanistan etc.) heqs 09:24, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

What's the basis of saying LBJ was probably referencing John Adams? "Hearts and minds" was originally a biblical expression and I'd guess it's the more likely referent.
