[edit] Topic?

What is the topic of this article? It seems to be just giving various "definitions" of a term (i.e. a "dictionary article" which violates Wikipedia policy). There is no specific "thing" (or even a set of "things") that is being described.

There is a note at the bottom that says this is a disambig page. If that is what this is supposed to be then it is written incorrectly with a lot of inappropriate info. --Mcorazao 15:39, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Location

"The term Heartland is also frequently used to describe the region in the United States that lies between the Mid-West and the Mid-South." I disagree with this uncited claim. I am changing this sentence into: "The term Heartland is also frequently used to describe the Midwestern region of the United States."

The Midwest page is of much higher quality and this change would make these two pages internally consistent. See: "The term Midwest has been in common use for over 100 years. Other designations for the region have fallen into disuse, such as the "Northwest" or "Old Northwest" (from Northwest Territory), "Mid-America," or "Heartland". Since the book Middletown appeared in 1929, sociologists have often used Midwestern cities, and the Midwest generally, as "typical" of the entire nation.[4]" While the cite refers specially to the next sentence, Middletown also associates the Heartland as the Midwest. Moreover, this change is in line with various external sources coreferencing Heartland and Midwest: http://www.uark.edu/misc/aras/heartland.html; http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/070603/11newhampshire.b.htm; http://www.usnews.com/usnews/opinion/articles/040906/6john.htm --Elindstr (talk) 17:50, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
