[edit] Summary
Title card of the 1948 cartoon Heavenly Puss.
[edit] Rationale for fair use in Heavenly Puss
1. The screenshot is of a title card and does not feature any footage that might spoil a reader's enjoyment of the subject matter in the article. It also lists the title and credits of the cartoon, providing data that cannot possibly be disputed.
2. The screenshot is of lower resolution and quality than the original film (and thus, copies made from it will be of inferior quality).
3. No free or public-domain images have been located for this content, at least, none that I could find, but if you can, be my guest, good sir.
4. The screenshot does not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute the film on television or DVDs in any way.
5. The screenshot is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original film in any way.
6. People would probably miss it if it wasn't there, and I couldn't have that on my conscience.
[edit] Licensing
This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program or station ID. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia:Non-free content. |
