Heaven and Hell's first studio album is expected to be released in early 2009.[1] The album will be the band's first, however the band members have played with each other previously on Mob Rules and Dehumanizer as Black Sabbath.

Iommi commented that the idea for a Heaven and Hell album came about whilst the band was in Japan on their 2007 tour.[2]

Appice and Dio had originally said that the album would be released in 2008,[3][4] however an official press release from the band disclosed that the album's intended release date would be.[1]

Iommi is in the process of composing guitar riffs for album, and the band has already got the basic idea of songs already.[2] According to Appice, the band scheduled a meeting for April 7, 2008 to share ideas.[5]
