[edit] History
Heaven's Casino started out really as a 3-piece band featuring Bob Robertson, Jamie Matheson, and Kid Apathy Speaketh Not But Hate frontman Calum Caneen. The band was put together to play a selection of works written for Intermediate 2 and Higher Music courses.
Out of this, Bob and Jamie began to toy with the idea of forming a band, and later that academic year they played a Battle of the Bands at Jordanhill School, with the band featuring Bob and Jamie, along with Bruce on vocals and [Ali Syme] on bass. The set featured a series of covers by Franz Ferdinand, Jimi Hendrix, The Arctic Monkeys, Rage Against the Machine, and Led Zeppelin.
Bouyed by their success, they decided to pursue song writing, and the earliest incarnation of Heaven's Casino as we know it today played its first gig at the Bearsden Burgh Hall in August, 2006, this time with Bob's brother Andrew replacing Ali on bass. The set was again made up primarily of covers, but featuring an opening jam which would later provide much of the basis for the song "Modern Nature."
Following this gig, Jamie Singh was brought in on bass, allowing Andrew to join his brother on guitar. This incarnation of the band played one gig, a charity gig at Woodend Tennis Club, before Jamie Singh left and was replaced by Calum Nelson. They have since played several gigs around Glasgow, and have started accumulating a small fanbase.
[edit] Current Activity
The band is currently in the process of preparing new material, and hopes to continue playing gigs around the Glasgow area and, perhaps in future, as far afield as Leeds and Edinburgh.[1]
