Heath Township, Pennsylvania

Heath Township is a township in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 160 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 29.0 square miles (75.1 km²), of which, 28.6 square miles (74.2 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (0.9 km²) of it (1.24%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 160 people, 77 households, and 49 families residing in the township. The population density was 5.6 people per square mile (2.2/km²). There were 707 housing units at an average density of 24.7/sq mi (9.5/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.12% White, 0.62% Asian, and 1.25% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.62% of the population.

There were 77 households out of which 15.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% were married couples living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 35.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.08 and the average family size was 2.60.

In the township the population was spread out with 14.4% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 23.1% from 25 to 44, 34.4% from 45 to 64, and 22.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 53 years. For every 100 females there were 125.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 128.3 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $42,500, and the median income for a family was $48,750. Males had a median income of $41,250 versus $32,250 for females. The per capita income for the township was $37,309. About 14.0% of families and 14.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 38.5% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
