Healthy in Paranoid Times is Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace's sixth studio album, released on August 30, 2005. The disc was released on a regular audio disc as well as a DualDisc, with the DVD side containing a documentary on the making of the album. The album fared well in both Canada and the U.S., but didn't match up to the expectations of their previous smash hit, Gravity. Healthy in Paranoid Times has a lighter sound, comparable to Happiness.... For example, the second single "Angels/Losing/Sleep" has vocalist Raine Maida singing at a higher pitch, making the jarred, falsetto-like voice Raine Maida and Our Lady Peace was known for. More songs, like "Boy", also have a lighter melody and vocals, instead of the heavier sounds on Gravity. The album deals with current world events, and discusses issues such as war and the current state of the world, rather than the social and relationship themes featured on Gravity.

Healthy in Paranoid Times has sold 378,000 copies in the United States.[citation needed]

The first single was "Where Are You?", released in Canada on June 28, 2005 and released in the United States on July 18, 2005. The second single was "Angels/Losing/Sleep". And the third single (and probably the last from Healthy in Paranoid Times) is "Will the Future Blame Us".

[edit] The making of the album

According to the band, Our Lady Peace came dangerously close to breaking up during the making of the record. Allegedly, producer Bob Rock and various other members of the band walked away from the project. Over 40 songs were recorded in the making of the album, and it was recorded in several cities including: Los Angeles, Maui, Vancouver and Toronto. Apparently, the band could not decide on what material would fit best for the album, and what should sound right or not. Even so, they said they were very proud of this album. Our Lady Peace took four years to record and release the record, which is the follow-up to 2002's Gravity. One song in particular, "Kiss on the Mouth", is recently being played live in their concerts, and was said that it would be the first single off their Greatest Hits album.

[edit] Extended Copy Protection

In November 2005, it was revealed that Sony was distributing albums with Extended Copy Protection, a controversial feature that automatically installed rootkit software on any Microsoft Windows machine upon insertion of the disc. In addition to preventing the CDs contents from being copied, it was also revealed that the software reported the users' listening habits back to Sony and also exposed the computer to malicious attacks that exploited insecure features of the rootkit software. Though Sony refused to release a list of the affected CDs, the Electronic Frontier Foundation identified Healthy in Paranoid Times as one of the discs with the invasive software. As part of its settlement of the class action lawsuit filed against it, Sony allowed customers to return copies of Healthy in Paranoid Times for new copies plus a cash payment. This album has been released with the Copy Control protection system in some regions.
