[edit] History

The original houses in Healey and on Healey Road were built in the late Victorian era.

[edit] Location and transport

Healey is located south of Ossett at the end of what is now called Healey Road. Healey is at the intersection of the rail and canal networks, with a large railway yard adjacent to the Calder and Hebble Navigation. Being also in close proximity to the M1, Healey Road benefits from convenient road access to Leeds and further afield through the motorway network.

Today, with the industrial significance of the canals long gone, Healey is a popular starting point for walkers and mountain bikers using the Kirklees Way (which passes Healey on the south bank of the Calder) and access to the scenic southern Calder Valley.

Healey benefits from direct public transport links to Ossett and Wakefield through the 118 bus[1] operated by Arriva.

[edit] Business and recreation

Healey Low Mills and Healey New Mills operate as prosperous industrial business parks. The Brewer's Pride pub is colocated with The Ossett Brewery at the bottom of Healey Road.

[edit] Education

Ossett Dimplewell Infants School is located set back from Healey Road accessible by public footpath. The back entrance of Ossett School also comes out in the Healey area.

[edit] Recreation

In addition to walking and mountain biking, the Ossett Cricket Club and Albion FC ground is located adjacent to Healey.
