[edit] Song meaning

"He Wasn't" is about an unsuccessful relationship between Avril and another guy. The song is a fast, up-beat catchy take on the guy "not being good enough" and how he never made her "feel like she was special." So now she is bored and alone. She says "There's not much going on today", and other similar phrases. On a document of making "My Happy Ending", the song was playing in the background, and Avril jokes, "'He wasn't what I wanted'...is there a theme on my record?"

[edit] Music video

The video features Avril singing and her band playing instruments in the backround. There are scenes where she dances around wearing white gloves, a pink skirt, and holding a magic wand (she is protraying an angel), and other scenes where she is wearing devil horns on her head (she is protraying the devil). It turns out that Avril and her band are at a video shoot, and later get into a food fight, much to the dismay of the directors. Avril then rebells and smashes her guitar into the camera lens, and then into the paper wall, where pink paint splashes out. The video ends with the band dancing and Avril performing the splits.
