HDMS Najaden (1796)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Najaden was a frigate in the Royal Dano-Norwegian Navy. Her career spanned from 1796 to 1807. She may have replaced an earlier Najaden which some claim was commissioned in 1776.

The name Najaden is equivalent to the English Naiads, and is most often associated with a successor Dano-Norwegian vessel which sank off the coast of Norway in 1812. For this ship, see HDMS Najaden (1811).

After the Denmark-Norway union was dissolved by the Treaty of Kiel in 1814, the Danish Navy commissioned four additional vessels with the same name.[1]
