This photograph of Hendrik Wade Bode, (24 December 1905 Madison, Wisconsin21 June 1982 Cambridge, Massachusetts), was widely distributed for reproduction and publicity prior to 1978 as Bode's official headshot. It did not include a copyright notice at the time, and no application for extension of a copyright is on record, and so it is considered to be in the public domain.
