[edit] Sugested config triming

  • Lower the long name trigger to 16 chars.
  • Repeating character lowered to 4 chars. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Henke37 (talkcontribs) 15:29, 22 May 2007
I disagree, and I think you're focusing on specific examples listed on WP:U and missing the intent of the policy (to block usernames that are actually harmful). rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 16:23, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
I also disagree. 16 characters is way to short. ((1 == 2) ? (('Stop') : ('Go')) 16:24, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
You're right about that. When setting guidelines on lengths of names, consider whether it would discourage the use of real names. For example, my mother's first name + space + last name total 19 characters. Or imagine if the lead singer of Linkin Park or the actor who played the Terminator were to start editing Wikipedia (but not in articles about themselves). A 16-character username limit would hurt them: len("Chester Bennington") == 18, and len("Arnold Schwarzenegger") == 21. More importantly, for those concerned about double standards, len("HBC NameWatcherBot") == 18. --Damian Yerrick (fourteen | characters) 01:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
