The last line under the "Basis" heading really needs to be fixed. "Because the First Amendment says that you have the freedom of speech doesn't mean you can put them things in the public like they did at Hazelwood High School."

Hazelwood was a school district, Kuhlmeier was a person. O rly?

There seem to be some strange edits happening to this page periodically. For example, there is no such thing as "Hazelwood High"; the school involved was Hazelwood East. Changing the phrase "curricular, non-forum student newspapers" to "curricula in non-forum student newspapers" makes the phrase legally incorrect, because non-curricular newspapers would not be subject to the Hazelwood standard regardless of forum status. (Note that extra-curricular is not a term used by the Court--the Court is seeking to make a distinction between newspapers that exist for an educational goal and newspapers that exist for the purpose of student expression.) I think what I'm getting at is this: please be careful about the edits you make and refer to the source texts, because this article seems to degrade periodically with poor editing. The court's decision was 5-3, not 6-3 as previously stated. Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy had not yet been commissioned to replace retiring justice Lewis Powell, thereforce the court reached a ruling with only eight justices presiding. Keiran_Horn 05:01, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
