[edit] History

Hazelwood West High School began on the current site of Hazelwood Central High School in the 1960s. Students from West and Hazelwood East High School would alternate use of the Central campus with Central. The building that would become Hazelwood West, meanwhile, began life in 1969 as a three-year junior high school called Howdershell Jr. High. In 1974, Howdershell Jr. High was expanded to accommodate both junior and senior high school students and was subsequently renamed Hazelwood West Junior-Senior High School. In 2007, with the completion of a separate Hazelwood West Middle School, Hazelwood West became a high-school only facility.
