[edit] Gough Whitlam
I see you have listed Gough Whitlam at Good article candidates. While the article used to be a featured article, I fear that it stands little chance of passing the GA process at this time. At a minimum, the article needs in line citations throughout; there are large sections without them. The article lead needs expansion, see WP:LEAD for ideas. The article also needs a good copy-edit. I would consider condensing the Dismissal section further, especially as there is a {{main}} link to the the main article on the subject. One sentence paragraphs are not popular at GAC either.
Rather than formally review and fail the article, given the backlog at GAC you may have time to rectify these concerns before another reviewer has a chance to take a look. Good luck with the article and let me know if you need a hand. -- Mattinbgn\talk 11:08, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Haydn. The books listed in the further reading section would be a good start and I fear there is no real alternative other than a trip to the library. I see you have put a request in for help at WP:AUSPOL which is a good start. You may get a better response if you ask for specific help with a certain area, such as a good source for his early career, etc. rather than a blanket request. Don't be too respectful of the existing content. Be bold and rip into it, adding sourced content and removing content where appropriate, especially unsourced and unattributed opinion. Be especially harsh on weasel words, such as "Some people think...". As you are no doubt aware, passions still run high about his actions, his dismissal and his legacy. As you have reviewed good articles before, you know that reviewing editors look for stability and a version that maintains a NPOV will generally keep the vandals and POV pushers away.
- Regarding the lead, WP:LEAD suggests three to four paragraphs for an article this size. I would start the lead with a summary of his career, a second para about his legacy as PM (praise and criticism) and then another about the dismissal and his life after politics. I have written a few leads for GA articles now, so let me know if you want a hand. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 11:16, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
