Hayward is a Bay Area Rapid Transit station that primarily serves the center and Downtown of Hayward. The station consists of two side platforms. and is connected by AC Transit and the Hayward HillHopper. It is directly across the street from the Hayward City Hall. There is Free Parking in the lots and a 5 level Garage. In May 2008, an electrical fire forced the trains to stop at this station. The fire started at the train matinence yard near the Hayward station.

Service at this station began on September 11, 1972.[1]

SamTrans' only transbay line, the 90E, served here until 1999. San Mateo Bridge service was then taken over by AC Transit's line M.
