Hayden is a name popular in the United States meaning "hay valley" from the Old English "heg," meaning hay and "denu" meaning "valley."[1] It is used for both boys and girls, but is more common for boys. Its use for girls has increased with the rise in popularity of the actress Hayden Panettiere.
Its popularity is also increased by the popularity of similar sounding names such as Aidan, Braden, Caden, and Jaden.[2]
