[edit] HBMS Library
Located at the heart of the school building is the Library. The library contains an abundance of books and upwards of twelve computers which can search the library's card catalog and access the internet. Students in sixth grade take part in a library class which is taught by the librarian.
[edit] Technology
As of the 2006-2007 school year, HBMS has two connected computer labs. The first, larger, computer lab consists of around 28 Apple eMac computers and two laser printers, one black and white and one color. Computers in the first lab run either Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X Tiger. One computer in the first lab is equipped with a SuperDrive for burning DVDs. The second, smaller, lab consists of around 23 Apple iMac G3 computers and two other laser printers. All of the computers in the second lab run Mac OS 9.2. The computers in the library are generic PCs running Microsoft Windows. Many of these run Windows 95 while only a few run newer Windows 98 or Windows XP operating systems. Almost every class room in the school has at least one computer, many have two. These classroom computers are usually Apple iMac G3s running Mac OS 9.2. However, the art room, and some other classrooms, have Power Macintosh G3s. Some of these PowerMacs run Mac OS 8.2. Also, few classrooms, including the band room, have eMacs running Mac OS X. All of the Macs in the school are connected to an Apple Server with Mac OS X Server.
[edit] Band
The Hawthorne Brook Middle School is home to a very experienced band which has had the honor of playing at the Massachusetts State House in Boston. The band is currently headed by the former music teacher, Mr. Day. The band teacher was Mr. Kenneth Arsanault until he retired in 2006.
