Hawkeye is a city in Fayette County, Iowa, United States. The population was 489 at the 2000 census.

Hawkeye is located at 42°56′17″N, 91°57′4″W (42.938020, -91.951029)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.7 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 489 people, 217 households, and 134 families residing in the city. The population density was 734.2 people per square mile (281.8/km²). There were 234 housing units at an average density of 351.4/sq mi (134.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.98% White, 0.41% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races.

There were 217 households out of which 27.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.8% were non-families. 35.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 22.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $30,333, and the median income for a family was $38,438. Males had a median income of $25,781 versus $20,781 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,319. About 6.0% of families and 8.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.7% of those under age 18 and 15.2% of those age 65 or over.
