[edit] Origin

This kind of sandal, exactly same style, is so common in Southeast Asia, at least in Thailand, for more than 30 years (I know it since I was young). So I'm not sure about its origin. Any source/reference ?

this type of sandal is commonly worn by Filipinos too. some people in the Philippines can't appreciate Havaianas for having an ORDINARY look for a pair of slippers. i just can;t believe why Brazil made it to the 'fashion world'. What do they know about wearing rubber thongs anyway? who copied who?

Why is it redirected from alpargatas??? There not the same, at all. At least here in Uruguay

This is so true, I'll ask whoever it was that made the redirect. Stale Fries taste better 17:33, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Havaianas started in the middle 60's, Their sandals are made of a special rubber formula which is extremely durable and soft. i can tell you that havaianas feels way better on the feet than any other cheap flip flops sandals out there.. try them and you will be surprised.

Can we not refer to Hawaii as 'the popular vacation destination' or whatever it is? It's a state and not some resort, though tourism is obviously its biggest industry. The description is demeaning.
