[edit] Grades Portal

In the 2006-2007 school year the Haverford School District introduced a grades portal. The portal is run using Powerschool and relies on one unsecured cookie for the login. Through it anyone with the user name and password that corresponds to a student can look up information about them. The accounts given to the parents and students are different from those given to Haverford staff. The Haverford Staff accounts allow the staff to view the pictures of students along with health information. The parent and student accounts allow the user to see the students grades, sign up for email updates, and see attendance and tardiness reports. The accounts were first accessible on February 2, 2007.

[edit] History

The campus used for the middle school in 2006 was built in the 1926s as Haverford Senior High School; the junior high school was established on the same campus in the 1930s. The post-World War II baby boom served as the catalyst for expansion of the schools in the district; in 1956, the new high school was constructed, leaving the middle school with all of the 1926 campus. [3]. The school is going under a three year renovation starting in the 07-08 year.

The Haverford Junior High School, grades 7-9, was converted to the Middle School, grades 6-8, beginning with the 1985-86 school year (Class of 1992).

[edit] Potter Cup

Once a year, since 2003, rivals Haverford and Paxon Hollow Middle Schools have competed in the Potter Cup, an annual pep rally and sporting event sponsored by Alex's Lemonade Stand. The event is well known in the immediate area, and the schools have raised over $100,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. The parents of Alex Scott have personally attended the event, and the Alex's Lemonade Stand flavor Krimpets were first tried here. [4]Haverford has won a majority of the games.

[edit] Student body

During the 2004-2005 school year, the school had 1318 students [5].

5% of the students qualified for free or reduced lunch.

[edit] Misc.

  • HMS uses high-restriction filtering systems for internet use
  • HMS also uses Macintosh computers
  • During the 2007-2008 school year the "teams'" (sections of each grade given animal name i.e. arctic falcons) teachers were all inter-changed due to the unfair advantage of some having "No homework", and more feild trips.
  • The school colors for Haverford are red and gold, and their mascot is the Model-T ford.
