From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My name is Haukur. I am Icelandic, born in Reykjavík in 1980. I have a BS degree in electrical engineering and an MS degree in computer science. For several years I've been doing part-time studies towards a BA in linguistics or Icelandic studies.
I'm a sysop/administrator here on the English Wikipedia. That just means I have access to a few extra tools to help out a bit more. If it ever seems to you that I am abusing the admin tools then please tell me. If five established editors tell me that I have abused the admin tools I will resign my adminship regardless of my opinion of the merit of the claim. See Category:Wikipedia administrators open to recall for other admins who have made similar commitments.

[edit] Wikimedia career
[edit] English Wikipedia
I remember the days when it was an even money bet that clicking on "Random article" would take you to a Rambot generated stub. I've contributed sporadically to English Wikipedia since the summer of 2003. I edited anonymously for a while but got a username on July 22 2003 with this as my first edit: [1]. Even though I had a username a large part of my edits continued to be anonymous. I became substantially more active in January 2005 and rarely edit anonymously anymore except by accident.
Nowadays I mostly work on Old Norse literature, which includes topics such as Norse mythology, kings' sagas and skaldic poetry.
[edit] Other projects
Though I'm most active on the English Wikipedia I contribute to several other projects as well, here's a list of my contribution logs where I've made more than 50 edits.
- Danish Wikipedia
- German Wikipedia
- Faroese Wikipedia
- French Wikipedia
- Icelandic Wikipedia
- Norwegian nynorsk Wikipedia
- Norwegian bokmål Wikipedia
- Swedish Wikipedia

[edit] Selected creations
I've created a number of pages through my career here, the first few back in 2003. I think maintaining an endless list of articles one has written is not very interesting so here are just a few eclectic samples. This includes articles I didn't start but have completely rewritten.

- Hrafnkels saga - Featured article. Thanks to everyone who helped!
- Kormáks saga - Where you can hear me read Old Norse poetry.
- Martian scientist - I'm absurdly happy with this one, for some reason.
- Eiríkr Hákonarson - Plundered across Scandinavia, Russia and the Baltic. Then conquered England.
- Battle of Svolder - Greatest victory of the above.
- Kvinneby amulette - Obscure, but it interests me.
[edit] Rewritten mythological articles
I've done a lot of work on Norse mythology. Here are some examples.
- Heiðrún - An extremely convenient goat.
- Búri - A creation-god, reminds me of Mithra with his rock-birth.
- Auðumbla - Primordeal cattle, got to love it.
- Eikþyrnir - A stag, Heiðrún's friend.
- Four stags of Yggdrasill - Some more stags.
- Lóðurr - A very comprehensive article about a very obscure god.
- Freyr - One of the most important gods. I vaguely intend to bring this to FA quality but much more work is needed. I've basically collected the necessary sources and quoted many of them but some sections need fleshing out and readability and coherence needs to be improved.
[edit] Sample images
I like contributing images. Some I've scanned, some I've found on the web, some are photographs taken by me or my wife.
