[edit] Rodeo articles
Hi, Wanted to let you know that I am all for creating a balanced article on various rodeo events, but that emotions run very high on both sides of the issue and I put a lot of work into editing these articles to clean up the extreme statements on both sides and provide a fair number of sources. It was not long ago that strongly pro-rodeo people were deleting ALL references to controversy and animal abuse concerns, and when I restored the controversy material was accused of being a "bunny hugger." Now it seems the articles are viewed as "pro rodeo." This is a no-win situation. These articles generate very strong emotions on both sides, and I see my role to be a neutral editor and wordsmith to the extent possible. I would appreciate it if you do not blank material that is there, but rather add verifiable, neutrally-worded statements if you with to expand the viewpoints of each side. Please read WP:NOT and WP:NPOV before you make further edits. I will attempt to source any tagged material as I have time, but with 800 articles on my watchlist, it may indeed take a bit of time. Thanks Montanabw(talk) 22:52, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] NPA
Please refrain from threatening and accusing other editors, these comments are uncivil and can be construed as personal attacks: [1], [2]. Good faith edits by other contributors is not vandalism. Work it out on the article talk pages per WP:DR instead. If you continue making personal attacks, you will be blocked. Dreadstar † 06:30, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] February 2008
Please do not assume ownership of articles such as Steer wrestling. If you aren't willing to allow your contributions to be edited extensively or be redistributed by others, please do not submit them. Thank you. Mayalld (talk) 11:53, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that the article history says that you ARE trying to WP:OWN the article. Whilst it is clear that the two of you are engaging in a battle over what the article should say, you are the one who has posted with an edit summary which suggests that your fellow editor's contributions are unwanted. - Montanabw is making sweeping, unsourced statements - statements that appear as facts that everyone knows, and thus need no sourcing. Mbw's profile page indicates he/she is a horse person living in Montana. I think Mbw's is approaching the subject with a proprietary bias and simply does not want a researched, documented "Animal Abuse in Rodeo" controversy presented. Mbw is minimizing my contributions while maximizing his/hers. Mbw is very slightly altering my contributions to reflect a "this is an animal nut" statement sort of thing. In one contribution I named a veterinarian with work inrodeo and included her credentials. Mbw reduced the contribution to "a spokesman for an animal rights group." So how come you are supporting someone who is actually damaging the article, and coming down hard on someone who is trying to improve and cover all the bases in the discussion? - I'm not supporting somebody who is damaging the article. In my view, both of you are attempting to push a POV in the article. The fact that you are inserting sourced POV doesn't stop it being POV. My warning to you was on the basis that you are attempting to send another editor away from the article.
- Montanabw is allowed to edit text that you introduced, and isn't required to keep his/her text distinct from yours.
- Whilst you may well have included the veterinarian's credentials, did you mention that she is connected with an animal rights group. If not, you are being selective to further a particular POV.

[edit] Possible solution
I am wondering if, instead of clogging up all the rodeo articles with the cruelty issue, why don't you just start your own article, titled something like Animal abuse in rodeo and then put everything in one place? I see no problem with putting in a wikilink to such an article and then those who care can read all they want, and in the meantime I am not going to have to put up with the pro-rodeo side starting an edit war a month from now over the other point of view. Also, I really do hope you tone down the personal attacks on me. I am neither rodeo competitor nor anyone with any financial stake in the industry. All that being a Montanan gets me is first-hand knowledge of what rodeos are really like, I actually am an English riding person. I sincerely think that creating your own article might be the way to go here, you can start it by just clicking on the red link I made for you. Montanabw(talk) 02:01, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Blocked
You've been temporarily blocked for continuing to make uncivil personal attacks [3][4] after being warned, [5] [6], and for tendentious editing. When your block expires, please work with the editors you are in a dipute with, per WP:CON, WP:CIV and WP:NPA. Dreadstar † 01:43, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
