HATTERAS NETWORKS, Inc is headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina and was started in 2000 to develop high-performance telecommunications access platforms. Hatteras Networks provides standards-based Ethernet access solutions, which leverage the fully ratified Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) standards from the IEEE and ITU.

Hatteras Networks' innovative Ethernet over bonded copper access solutions enable carriers to leverage existing dry copper loops to deliver up to 45 Mbit/s of symmetrical business-grade Ethernet services to the 90% of buildings that do not have access to fiber. Carriers that previously deployed Ethernet services over fiber have come to realize the huge untapped market opportunity of Ethernet over copper services.

Hatteras Networks is a founding member of the Ethernet in the First Mile Alliance, and was a leader in the development of the IEEE 802.3ah standards for delivering symmetrical Ethernet services natively over copper access loops.

Carriers from around the world have deployed Hatteras' Metro Ethernet Copper Access solutions, enabling them to drive down access costs by eliminating the cost and complexity of ATM and T1/E1 solutions, and increase revenue with higher bandwidth, value-added services.
