Hathern
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hathern is a large village and civil parish in the Charnwood district of Leicestershire, England. It is in the north of the district, and is just north of Loughborough, and is on the A6. The parish has a population of about 1,800. Nearby places are Dishley, Long Whatton, and Zouch, over the border in Nottinghamshire. The village has, recent years, campaigned to prevent the green "wedge" separating Loughborough, Shepshed and Hathern from being built on, to keep Hatherns independence. The village is home to the Swift Sock Factory, famous for their well made socks. They have recently used Selina Scott's (ex newsreader) goats. The village has its own publication, the Hathern Herald, run by editors Andree Bagley and Martin Clayton, along with Beverly Bradford and Michael Hockaday. The magazine is a full 12 page colour publication, and has been running for 3 years.
