East Kilbride railway station is the terminus of First ScotRail's Glasgow South Western Line, a branch line which runs to Glasgow Central. There are two trains per hour, seven days a week, with a journey time of approximately 30 minutes.[11] The station has a staffed ticket office and a large car park,[12] but is situated in the West Mains district, a long way from the town centre.

East Kilbride bus station is one of the largest in Scotland, and is owned and operated by the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT). A £6 million public-private partnership project to regenerate it was completed in 2005.[13]

The main roads serving East Kilbride are the A725, A726 and A749. The A725 starts in the Birniehill area of the town and joins the A89 at Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire.[14] The A726 forms the main southern orbital route around Glasgow, starting at Strathaven and ending at Erskine in Renfrewshire.[15] The A749, which ends in the north of the town, is the main road to Glasgow.[16]
