Hassan Tatanaki

Hassan Tatanaki (Arabic:حسن طاطاناكي ) is a Libyan businessman living in Cairo, Egypt. Currently he serves as chairman and managing director of the Libyan oil drilling company Challenger LTD.

As Chairman of Challenger LTD, Tatanaki's activities cover Libya, Abu Dhabi and Egypt. Established in 1991, Challenger currently owns and operates a fleet of 22 rigs in Libya providing drilling and work-over services of oil, gas and water wells, with offices in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.[1] Challenger works as a regular subcontractor to Libya’s National Oil Corporation and to Total, Marathon Oil and ENI in Libya.[2]

Additionally, Tatanaki is a close friend of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi. He is also a partner of Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zaid and a member of the Clinton Global Initiative.[3]

Dr Khaled Azzam, Chief Executive of The Prince's School of Traditional Arts, and Hassan Tatanaki signed a Memorandum of Understanding on January 30, 2007 to signify their cooperation for the establishment of a school of traditional arts and crafts in Tripoli, Libya to train young Libyans to understand the principles of traditional Islamic art and design. These training will contribute towards the regeneration of the urban environment in the old city.[4]
