Hashim Thabit Manka also known as talib kweel (born February 16, 1987 in Dar es Salaam) is a Tanzanian college basketball player at the University of Connecticut Huskies. He is known as Hasheem Thabeet, as his name was Anglicized from Swahili. At 7'3" and 263 lbs, Thabeet is the tallest player ever to play for the Huskies.^[2]

2006-2007 Freshman Season:

On December 3, 2006, Thabeet tied a UConn record with 10 blocks.^[3]

As a freshman he averaged 6.2 points and 3.8 blocks per game. ^[4]

Thabeet was named to the 2007 All-Big East Rookie Team along with fellow teammate Jerome Dyson.

2007-2008 Sophomore Season:

As a sophomore he saw increased minutes and his game improve tremendously averaging 10.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.5 blocks on the season. ^[5]

Tied his career high in blocks at 10 on January 5, 2008 in the Huskies 73-67 loss at University of Notre Dame. ^[6]

Was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year and to the Second Team All Big East. ^[7]

He is the son of Thabit Manka (deceased) and Rukia Manka. His mother, Rukia, still resides in Dar Es Salaam. He has one sister, Sham, and one brother, Akbar. Before attending UConn, Hasheem attended the Cypress Christian School in Houston, Texas where he averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game.
