[edit] Earlier discussion

I worked at Harvey's and I would recommend that anyone eat there.

I'm American and the first place I eat when I go to Canada is Harvey's! Meat. Fire. Good. Bring to USA, like you did with Tim Horton's! Why Canadians would eat at American fast-food joints when they have Harvey's is beyond me. Though poutine is one of those "you gotta be Canadian to like this" things, Yanks would eat it up, literally.--MarshallStack 04:28, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Can we trade? I've got a Harvey's a couple miles from me and it's the last place I'd go to for a burger... Kirjtc2 14:58, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
I work there too and I have to say it's a nice place to work in addition to being a nice place to eat! And poutines = life. ^_^ --Matt0401 12:04, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
I would trade a Harvey's for a Hardee's anytime! Harvey's burgers are awful, I honestly do not like them. Best burgers are in the USA! Decimal10 18:44, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Another issue is the amount of meat in a Havery's burger. I once queried the staff about the contents of the burger. I was told that the main ingredient is cracked wheat: my guess is that it's mostly grain, the beefy flavor possibly coming from suet. Knowledge, anyone?

Yes, i've worked for harveys for nearly 2 years. That is the contents of the burger, which weighs 3.2 oz.

Reply By Keith: Harvey's original burgers are made from a combination of BEEF & binders. The grilled chicken is 100% chicken. The veggie burger is made from soy products and from real vegetables. I currently a supervisor for a Harvey's in Sarnia, ON. We just got a new location, and I must say we are serving the best burgers period. Being a vegetarian, I know I can come to work and order a Veggie burger, knowing it will not come in contact with meat. We have the best people, great customers, and lots of business. I assume this is the case with all locations in south-western Ontario. Travling in the states, It was hard to find a good tasing veggie burger, or a pleasant fast-food experience period; they could learn a lot from Harvey's. (Dec. 03, 06)

As a fellow Harvey's supervisor, I'm sure you're also aware that Harvey's cannot offer a "True" vegetarian burger, as it cannot be guaranteed that is has not come in contact with meat. Whether this be passed on by hands (yes, cross contamination, but it does happen) or cooked on the same grill as the meat. Of course it's a little easier when you cook your own. It simply bothers me when so many teammates both at my Harvey's, 2 others I've worked at, and others I've been in claim (not in so many words) that there is no way it could have come in contact with meat. 24.226.93.197 15:23, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I am a former Harvey's store manager, and as such I know what is in the burgers. They are much like the Schneider's burgers which are sold in grocery stores - they contain some beef, some soy products, wheat/bread crumbs and the like - there is a lot of filler. They are definitely NOT just "BEEF and binders". There IS beef in the burgers however, the flavour does not come from suet. Some of the past burger offerings contained much more meat, and the junior burgers had very little in the way of additives... but as an experienced manager in several different fast food chains, I can tell you that of all the Canadian chains Harvey's has the least actual meat in their burgers. Also, as the previous responder said, a Harvey's veggie burger has almost certainly come into contact with beef in some for or another at some point... except for the most diligent of grill people, you are almost certain to touch where a regular burger was cooked, or be touched by a spatula or a hand that was used on a burger with meat, or some other form of slight cross contamination. You can't cook at Harvey's without occasionally touching something. I'd also like to point out that the Harvey's I worked at in Oshawa, Ontario, completely vanished off the map after being bought out by a new franchisee - and I know exactly why, since the chain has always had some precarious financials in lower-traffic stores. If a store is not run well and efficiently, it runs into profitability problems quickly. --CokeBear 04:56, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Declining number of Harvey's restaurants in Montreal?

Hi, a number of Harvey's in Montreal have closed since 2006, I'm curious to know how the chain is faring financially.

Reply from Keith: I know in London, ON a location closed because Cara Operations raised their franchise fee and percentages. It was an older location without a drive-thru, with minimal business. Perhaps this is the case with the Montreal locations. (Dec. 03, 2006)
Speaking as a Montrealer I've noticed this too...there's very few Harvey's left in and around Montreal (quite a contrast from a decade or two ago). Swiss Chalet, also owned by Cara, pulled the chain out of the Quebec entirely a few years ago, I often wonder if they're not gradually doing the same with Harvey's restaurants. Looking on their website there's still a large number of restaurants operating in Ontario, so the business itself is probably still healthy. I think it is just Quebec (which has been in decline since the late 70's; with all its political uncertainty many companies and businesses continue to pull out). As of early 2008 there's still some Harvey restaurants around Montreal, but they're now far and few between.-Apple2gs (talk) 02:30, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Coincidentally, just after writing the above I learned Kelsey’s (another large chain owned by Cara Operations Ltd) has just closed ALL its Quebec restaurants and pulling completely out of the province. With both Swiss Chalet and Kelsey’s pulled out of the province, one has to wonder if Harvey's in Quebec isn't next.Apple2gs (talk) 12:54, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Which toppings?

Okay, just out of sheer curiosity... the article mentioned:

This was later discontinued due to overuse of certain toppings.

Which toppings were these? Ketchup? Mustard? Pickles? Onions? Something else?

Curiosity aside -- as a Wikipedian, I'm thinking that the cite should be either sourced or deleted due to lack of substantiation. Cheers, Dsf 08:17, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Anselmo?

Just a heads up, in the history section there's a lone mention of somebody named 'Anselmo' considering different names. The name doesn't seem to appear anywhere else in the article. Maybe it's a leftover of some earlier change/correction in the founder's name, but I don't know the topic enough to correct myself. 99.232.11.137 (talk) 03:30, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Wow, I had to trace that one back through the edits, but I found it.[[1]]
Was on the old page "Harvey's (restaurant chain)" ... appears to be based on some vandalism that was only partly corrected. Good catch! ...teddy (talk) 02:27, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
