As a hobby, Dr. Smith kept hives of bees in his West Austin back yard. He kept meticulous pollen charts to track the content of the honey, and bottled the honey for friends and family, labeling it "Supenatural Honey".

In the late 1980's, I was a Liberal Arts student at UT-Austin. Dr. Smith taught an undergraduate, non-major Astronomy course each year to expose non-astronomers to the science. I enjoyed that course very much, and wish I had guidance on recording that on the main page. It's surprising to me that such an eminent man would spend so much time working with us non-majors.
