[edit] CCOTM

Can we get started? not much time left before the world cup.--Thugchildz 03:01, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Coming. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 04:51, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Also are we going to have a peer review or just start without one? Well i think we need to have a peer review--Thugchildz 03:04, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

I did it up to the end of 2005. Only one more year of chronology to go, and then we only need the quotes and pundit reaction. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:09, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Do you think listing of MoM & MoS awards will add value? If so - i can volunteer for the same -- Kalyan 14:30 26 February 2007

I guess Wikipedia:Peer review/Harbhajan Singh/archive1 may answer the question. If so, I'd be grateful if you could help. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:56, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question

>> Nevertheless, he has the highest average amongst current players batting in the No. 4 position.

What is this stat ? From what I can find, he has never batted at No.4 in Tests and was out for 1 on the only occasion in ODIs Tintin 03:38, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

can you add in his new nickname in australia - gharbagearm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.191.89.70 (talk) 09:32, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Under performer

nowadays the performance of harbhajan singh is not up to the mark. Before deleting the segment of article , it is expected to discuss pros and cons . saravan_p 5th March
This article bullied by certain guys, who doesn't like to discuss, rather remove content which they don't feel like! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Parthakr (talkcontribs) 12:57, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Language too informal

Yeah, his performance isn't up to the mark, but your grammar & language is not the way to make edits. You are welcome to make the edits if your language is correct

Srikeit 05:55, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Nowadays his performance level has been diminishing considerably. He is struggling to get his rhythm right. He was severely punished by Shahid Afrid in the recent tour of Pakistan. Not penetrative in bowling as one in against Australia in 2001. In many of his recent outings, he is simply playing wicketless. With the performance against Australia in hand, he is surviving in the Indian cricket team squad.

But a very minor change I have made, as to meet the Wikipedia's standard, we have to write in unusual way. There is also one more Wikipedia in simple English, where we can use simple phrases and words. I feel nothing wrong in the changes I have made in the initial article. Srikeit, why can't you edit the same article with same stuff in your own language, as you have agreed the essence of the matter which we are investigating.

[edit] "Subsequent"

There are still seven "subsequent"s left in the article; they do jar somewhat. --Dweller 10:15, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] FAC comments

I don't want a couple of my FAC comments to be lost:

  • a career summary table (batting/bowling figures against the other Test nations, like those at the bottom of Paul Collingwood and [[Adam Gilchrist]) would be good
  • a batting Manhattan graph is unlikely to be very instructive, but what about a similar thing for bowling average?

But congratulations to the authors on a fine featured article :) -- ALoan (Talk) 11:12, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Batting Strike Rate

The reference for this statement re: Harbhajan's SR shows it to be incorrect, so I'm removing it. Please do revert this if it's a mistake. Kaushik twin 18:44, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Why is it

That Indians seem to burn effigies at the slightest thing that annoys them? Case and point the advert.Pubuman 04:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

How is this question relevant/helpful for Harbhajan Singh article? - KNM Talk 04:33, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Beacuse he is from India, and he is a cricketer.Pubuman 01:15, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
And? We mentioned that efigies were burnt. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:00, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Isn't it obvious? There are several types of protests like strike, rioting, public nudity, petitions, peaceful demonstrations, burning effigies etc. Indians prefer the last one when the protest is directed at a particular person.--Mellisa Anthony Jones (talk) 02:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

I am from India and I do not know myself! :) But we hear it so often in the news that it seems the most viable option to those who do so. 64.215.87.3 (talk) 16:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC) Abhi

[edit] Recent controversy

This article is of Featured Article standard. Adding uncited, POV or defamatory information in this article risks losing this status. The recent controversy deserves mention in the article, but it needs to be reliably sourced, maintain a neutral point of view and written in a encyclopaedic style. Breaches of Wikipedia's policies on biographies of living people will be taken seriously]]. -- Mattinbgn\talk 01:40, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ponting

I removed an uncited claim about Ponting being Harbhajan's bunny. There are plenty of reliable sources for this to be re-included, if it is attributed to someone in particular .and written in an encyclopaedic manner. -- Mattinbgn\talk 01:44, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Racial abuse"

I don't see how calling someone a "monkey" is racial abuse. It is no doubt abuse, but it bears no racial connatation in my mind. Maybe that should be cleared up, or an explonation could be added how the jury or the media got to that conclusion. Thanks, (74.134.124.3 (talk) 18:54, 9 January 2008 (UTC))

If it is not racial abuse, then why was it only used toward the only black player in the Aus team? Very disingenous approach. Grow up.

Phanto282 (talk) 11:50, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

It is racial abuse against people of an African background, because the person using the term is implying that because the person they are abusing is from Africa they are saying they are actually lower on the evolutionary tree than themselves. BartBart (talk) 12:56, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

If that's the logic behind the word "monkey" being racist , then I am afraid it's a very flawed logic because scientifically every race originated from the monkeys , not just any race in particular. So it's quite absurd to say the term monkey is racist to only people of African origin.By the way, Squidoo welcomes it's members with a message "Monkeybrain go back to work!" Would you say Squidoo is a racist site ? I wouldn't.

I think under "western culture" it is deemed as quite offensive but I think in South Asian culture if he did say it, its more accepted as being cheeky. Also personally I think its just alot of bull-dust being created.

124.190.91.227 (talk) 20:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Same goes for this contributor. You will grow as a person if you attempt to learn why this type of abuse is not to be tolerated.

Phanto282 (talk) 12:03, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I think if you call anyone with an African background it they are likely to be offended. Same as calling someone "boy" wouldn't be offensive unless they happened to be African/American or similar. It is the context of the term that needs to be accounted for, especially if the person using it is trying to offend. An example of this was some of the Indian crowd directing the term at Symonds in the recent ODI tour. BartBart (talk) 10:13, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Fascinating. Another classy example of the sportsmanship exhibited by some players in world cricket. Certainly not suitable for inclusion, as you well know. The Rambling Man (talk) 14:49, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Harbhajan is NOT "one of the most successful blower" nor "GREAT OFFSPINNER"

Please guys, he is not even near to be called good off spinner. There are 100's off spinner who have played the game ahead of him in terms of class and records. So if some one feels that he is. Please provide citation instead of writing your personal judgment. Harbhajan is Controversial King and the most disgraceful cricketer ever played for the great nation Indian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Parthakr (talkcontribs)

I don't know whether you're an ignorant person, or merely a troll, but here are some links you might like to go through:
  • The Times of India: "The 'Turbanator' Harbhajan Singh is India's most successful off-spin bowler."
  • Cricinfo: "India's most successful offspin bowler"
  • Reuters: "Harbhajan is one of his country’s most successful spin bowlers"
