[edit] Gameplay
Harvest Moon DS Cute is the same game as Harvest Moon DS, but instead of playing as the male protagonist, the protagonist is female.
The focus of Harvest Moon DS Cute is to create a successful farm by raising and selling crops, raising and selling the produce of various animals, and raising a family.
[edit] Differences from Boy's Version
While the biggest difference between the two games is the player's gender, there are also a few minor changes in the For Girl version. The player will be able to select between one of two characters to represent them in the game: The blonde "Claire" from the original Harvest Moon for Girls and from More Friends of Mineral Town or the pony-tailed brunette "Jill" from Another Wonderful Life. Unlike the regular version, it is possible to change the color of your character's clothing. Both characters have their own sets of 18 outfits. The character is determined by questions asked at the start of the game, much like the Animal Crossing series. However, the questions are quite shallow, and only the third question matters. Players may also choose to change the appearance of their house, by selecting one of six different wallpaper/carpet combinations for the interior. You can also buy new sets of clothing and wallpaper over the phone. There is now the option to have either a male or female child at random. Also, in the Harvest Sprite Casino the rules for 'Doubling Down' have changed, in that the 'Same' option in High or Low was removed. Some extra in-game events were also added. Due to the codes from DSC, the Farm Degrees for HMDSC have been confirmed different from HMDS.
[edit] Bachelors
At the start of the game, there are seven potential bachelors:
- Carter - A serious individual who works at an Excavation site. He may come off as harsh and unfriendly at first, but warms up with time. He is quite serious about his work and is not a fan of Flora's cooking.
- Griffin - A bartender who owns and works at the local bar that used to belong to his grandparents, with a warm, caring, and gentle personality. He enjoys playing the guitar as a pass-time. He like juices, fish, wine, and ores.
- Gustafa - A free-spirited musician who enjoys and respects nature. He is not the type of person to confine himself, he often travels around. He can be outgoing and sees the best in things in life. He enjoys wild plants.
- Marlin - A quiet, handsome, straight-forward individual who doesn't open up to many people. Marlin prefers to keep to himself and doesn't like conversations much. He works on his sister Vesta's farm. He likes produce.
- Rock - Flirtacious, confident, vain and good-looking, he freeloads off his mother who owns the valley's inn and he doesn't help her with any of the work. With a somewhat laid-back and lazy personality, some people find it hard to take him seriously. He likes really anything, but especially fruit.
- Kai - Carefree and cool, Kai sets up shop every summer on the beach, selling snacks and specialty foods from the city. Considered vain and sometimes inconsiderate to elderly. Although he is a Mineral town bachelor, without the GBA connection he still comes EVERY summer, and is available for marriage. He loves pineapples and hates Chirashi Sushi and wild grasses. Giving him a pineapple on his birthday (which is Summer 22) Will increase his love for you by a good amount.
- Skye - A special addition for the game, Skye is a silver-haired thief who only appears at night on sunny days. He feels that his destiny in life is to make curry. Unlike the other bachelors, Skye has 5 heart events, plus an extra event to propose. He LOVES curry dishes especially "Finest Curry", but HATES curry noodles. He first appears at the mansion. After that he will come to the valley from the town at 10 or 11pm. He will procede to the Harvest Goddess' spring. He likes fish okay but hates flowers.
Inserting a game cartridge from either of the Friends of Mineral Town series will allow the player to meet, and possibly marry, the other four potential bachelors. However, unlike Harvest Moon DS, marrying a Mineral Town character will not end your game.
- Cliff - Thoughtful and shy, his personality is genuine and hard-working. Many unfortunate events have happened to him in the past. Likes curry (like Skye).
- Gray - He is perceived as being cold; however, he has difficulties in expressing his emotions. He lacks self-confidence and works hard in order to be acknowledged by his grandfather, Saibara. Likes Baked corn, ores found in mines, and wine from the Supermarket.
- Doctor Trent - Professional in his work, he is a bit of a workaholic and may appear to be a bit aloof in his actions. LOVES herbs and milk.
- Rick - Has a bit of a sister-complex. Rick feels protective of his mother and sister and tries hard to fill the shoes of his missing father.
The Mineral Towns Girls will visit too! But they will not stop you from marrying a Mineral Town Guy.
Your in-game child's appearance is pre-determined by whom you chose to marry. However, if you married Skye or one of the bachelors from Mineral Town, the child's appearance is randomly selected from one of the original five bachelors.
[edit] Love Rivals
Out of the eleven bachelors, five of them have potential love interests that lie outside the player:
- Flora is the rival for Carter. She is his partner, working with him at the excavation site. Flora is smart and loves curry.
- Muffy is the rival for Griffin. She works as a barmaid in Griffin's saloon, and also lives with him. Muffy is cheerful and loves apple pie.
- Nami is the rival for Gustafa. Their love of travel is a common interest between them. Nami is reserved and likes grapes. But DO NOT give her Grape Jam she absolutely hates it.
- Celia is the rival for Marlin. They work together at Vesta's farm. Celia is very sweet and likes cake.
- Lumina is the rival for Rock. Lumina puts Rock's flirtatious personality in place. Lumina is a demure and sophisticated girl who absolutely loves Relax Tea, and hates fish (uncooked).Lumina also talks about Skye alot too, and how she might "like" him.
For each pair, the player can trigger four rival love events. A week after the fourth and final event is witnessed, the rival couple will marry. These events become available on a yearly basis. For example, the first (black heart) event can always be triggered, while the second (blue heart) can only be unlocked after the player reaches their second year in the game.
[edit] Best Friend
Another new addition is the Best Friends system. The special bachelorettes from the regular Harvest Moon DS game (The Harvest Goddess, Witch Princess, Leia the Mermaid, and Keria) can be coaxed into becoming your Best Friend by following the same steps as if you were going to marry them in Harvest Moon DS. Instead of a marriage ceremony, the two of you will meet on the beach at a Best Friends ceremony. Afterwards the girl will then move into your farmhouse; later on, your best friend will bring you a random child that any of the 5 bachelors could have. If you have a love bangle, you can view the love points of the girls, but they do not have colored hearts like the regular bachelors do. The Best Friend Feature is not to be included in the American version of Harvest Moon DS Cute. When asked, Natsume claims they have no official information on whether or not the Best Friends system remains in the game, despite publishing it and being questioned on March 25th, 2008, the date they admit the game was released to retailers. Amazingly, all Heart Events (special events that must be unlocked to gain a husband or Best Friend) for the magical girls remain in the game, yet the final event, proposing by means of a Blue Feather, seems to be disabled. As some of these events can entail hours of work to achieve and since Natsume refuses to comment on whether the system is still in the game it has the potential to waste hours upon hours of a player's time as they unlock all events only to have their final proposition ignored.
