Haruo Nakajima (中島 春雄 Nakajima Haruo?) (born January 1, 1929 in Yamagata, Japan) is a Japanese actor. Nakajima is best known for his portrayal of Godzilla in twelve different movies and as Japan's first fire stunt man. He was also Rodan, Moguera, Varan, Mothra, Matango, Baragon, Gaila, King Kong, Gezora, Ganime and the Griffin in Latitude Zero. He also did ten episodes of Ultraman where he also played a monster called Gabora on Episode 9: Operation-Electric stone fire. He also had a cameo appearance on Episode 25: Mystery Comet Tsuifon where he played a man who tells this lawyer that the human race is doomed because of a comet that is coming towards Earth fast, and his son has a space suit on. After Nakajima played Godzilla for the first three films, he was now famous for playing the king of monsters. He was offered roles in America to play monsters, but Eiji Tsuburaya told him that they can't make anymore Godzilla movies because he's the only stuntman who makes the monster look real. Nakajima also choreographed the monster battles. Nakajima played Godzilla from 1954 until 1972. Ever since Tsuburaya's death in 1970, Nakajima didn't feel the same with his portrayal as Godzilla. He retired in 1972 after filming Godzilla Vs. Gigan [1972].
