Harry White (jockey)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harry White (born 1944) was a top Australian jockey in the late 70s. He usually rode for the "cups king" Bart Cummings. He rode the winners of four Melbourne Cups on Think Big (twice) and Hyperno for Bart Cummings and also on Arwon.

White was renowned for his judgment in long distance events and for sleeping in the jockeys' room before riding in a race, no matter how important it was.

Harry White retired in 1995. He and wife Lauris live on a 200-hectare beef farm in Gisborne near Victoria, Australia.

On its formation in 2000, Harry White was part of the inaugural class of inductees in the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
