Truman High School A 9-12 public high school in Independence, Missouri. It is named after hometown resident, U.S. President Harry S Truman and his wife, Bess Truman. The mascot of Truman High is a patriot, and the school colors are red, white, and blue. Truman students are competitive with students from Fort Osage High School, but mostly towards William Chrisman High, their cross-town rivals.

Larger class sizes have become a concern for students and teachers, and the Independence School District currently has plans to build a third high school near Mize road that will filter some students from both the Chrisman and Truman districts, yet the plans are not completed.

Truman is a member of the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Truman still remains 5A school in sports.
[edit] Other Extracurriculars
There are many other activities that Truman offers its students, some of which are: Camerata, Trutones, creative writing clubs, Drawn to Art, and an active theater program.
[edit] Debate and Competitive Drama
Truman's Debate and Competitive Drama department has been ranked among the top high schools in the National Forensics League for the last ten years, consistently sending large numbers of teams to State and National competition.[citation needed]

Truman High School also supports a chess team.

Truman High School's Patriot Marching Band is active from the start of the Fall semester through the end of October, performing at home football games as well as multiple marching competitions. Starting in November the band is then split into Symphonic, Concert, and Freshmen bands. Other Opportunities are Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, and Pep band. The Truman High School Patriot Marching Band has been selected to be the state representative in the 2009 Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C. In spring 2007, Truman's Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Freshman Band, Orchestra, Women's Choir, Concert Choir, and Mixed Choir received a "I Superior" rating at the State Music Festival, and the Men's Choir earned a "II Excellent" rating.[citation needed]
