Harry Griffen Park

Harry Griffen Park is a park located between La Mesa and El Cajon, California featuring a playground, an open field to play sports, a shaded picnic area with tables and barbecues, a jogging path, and a fenced-in dog park. Beneath the park is an underground water reservoir run by the Helix Water District.

At 4:41PM on February 8, 2006, two small airplanes, a Cessna 172 and a Cessna 182, collided almost directly over Harry Griffen Park raining fiery debris over El Cajon and La Mesa. One plane crashed in the picnic area, the other into a house in an adjacent neighborhood.
