Harris Garden

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Harris Garden is a botanical garden on the Whiteknights Campus of the University of Reading in the civil parish of Earley, adjoining Reading, in the English county of Berkshire. It was established in 1972 and expanded into its current form in 1988. It is named after Professor Tom Harris, a distinguished palaeobotanist and keen gardener. It is fondly referred to by some students as the 'secret garden'.

The garden is about 12 acres (5 hectares) in size, and has a grid reference of SU737713. The garden is mostly used for teaching and research by the University's School of Plant Sciences, but it is open to members of the public on occasional open days. In 2006, it is planned to open the garden on the 2nd Sunday of each month from April to October. For detailed opening information, see the Friends of the Harris Garden website below.
