Harris Federation

Harris Federation is a federation of secondary [academies] in South London, England. There are seven schools in the federation which span over three London boroughs including the London Borough of Croydon, London Borough of Southwark and the London Borough of Merton. The schools major sponsor is the Lord Harris of Peckham. The federation is a not for profit charitable organisation whose key aim is "to promote the education of young people in South London". Unusually in education, the Harris Federation represents an attempt to develop a distinctive 'brand' in education.
The group of schools in the federation are: Harris City Academy Crystal Palace (previously Harris City Technology College)), Harris Academy South Norwood opened in September 2007), Harris Academy Merton (opened September 2006), Harris Academy at Peckham (The Academy at Peckham before - opened September 2003), Harris Academy Bermondsey (opened September 2006), Harris Girls Academy East Dulwich (opened September 2006) and Harris Boys Academy East Dulwich (opening in September 2009) collectively known as the Harris federation of South London Schools. Lord Harris is also the sponsor of a group of 6 specialist secondary schools and 4 specialist primary schools in the South London area. The Chief Executive Officer is Dr Daniel Moynihan.
The next target for the Harris empire is Haling Manor High School or the rundown Selsdon High School both located in the London Borough of Croydon. However, the federation did lose a bid to manage the successful Coulsdon High, which was then given to Oasis Academies. Saying this, the federation has recently won the bid to take of the successful yet badly housed Westwood College in Bexley. This from September 2008 will be known as the Harris Westwood Academy Bexley.
