[edit] Background
The College used to be Sylvan Hill School, which was allegedly failing until Lord Harris of Peckham part funded the school as part of the CTC programme. It has recently expanded into an academy and received £10 Million in donation from the government to be spent on new buildings or facilities around the college.
[edit] Year Structure
Each year in the College, excluding Post 16, is divided into 4 faculties: Arts, Communications, Science & Maths, and Technology. There are 2 tutor groups in each faculty consisting of approximately 20-25 students in each. In Year 7 all lessons are done in tutor groups, except Design & Technology and Maths, but in Year 8 the Core Subjects are mixed on ability between Science & Technology and Arts & Communication. In Year 9 French and History-Geography are split similarly. In Year 10, once the students have chosen their subjects, the compulsory subjects are mixed between the whole year-group into 7 sets.
Recently, Post 16 has become its own faculty so there are now officially 5 faculties at the college.
[edit] Harris Federation
In September 2007 Harris CTC was integrated into the Harris Federation. This Federation was set up by the same Lord Harris of Peckham and has been set-up as a coalition of several secondary schools in Croydon and Southwark. These schools also include the former Stanley Technical High School in South Norwood. Because of this, Harris CTC changed its name to Harris City Academy Crystal Palace[1].
