Harriet Klausner

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harriet Klausner is the #1 ranked reviewer of books for Amazon.com, having written over 15,500 reviews, as of January 2008. A speed reader, she reads 2 books a day, according to her Amazon profile. Harriet Klausner also writes for a number of review websites, one of the main websites being Review Centre [1]. Her reviews cover a wide variety of genres, although there seems to be a general tendency to write reviews regarding historical romance genres and vampire genres. According to her online profile, she was acquisitions librarian in Pennsylvania before writing a monthy review column of recommended books. In 2007, she was named by Time Magazine as one of the 15 of the “web generation’s movers and shakers."

Nevertheless, she has received widespread criticism on various websites [2] [3], questioning whether or not she actually reads the books she reviews (her reviews contain numerous errors), and even her existence, suggesting she may just be a identity used by the book industry as a way of reviewing their own books. This is supported by the fact that her reviews are almost universally positive. Whether these theories are true is not quite sure and although they sound rather attractive, it does not stop Harriet Klausner from appearing on a wide variety of different websites, including her own blogspot [4]

A parody by lampoonist Brockeim, "Stairway to Amazon," describes Klausner and Lawrance Bernabo, another book reviewer, vying for the top spot at the popular online book retailer.
