Harriet Eddy Middle School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harriet G. Eddy Middle School is a middle school in Elk Grove, California. It was named a national Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in 2000.[1]

Elk Grove's fourth middle school opened in the fall of 1994 as the feeder school for Laguna Creek High School. The school is named for a legendary principal of Elk Grove Union High School who served from 1907 to 1909. A dynamic woman who got the high school accredited with the formation of the first rural library in California, Miss Eddy went on to create county libraries in 40 of the 58 counties of the state as well as in other countries, notably the Soviet Union.

Pepper Spray Incident On April 16, 2007, at about 11:45, Harriet Eddy Middle School was evacuated due to several students reporting that they had experienced irritation to the skin and eyes. The fire department responded and determined that the irritation was caused by the release of pepper spray in the gym area and an art classroom. A total of about 80 students and two teachers were checked out by medics at the school. Students were returned back to class at about 1:30 p.m. to resume normal school activities. Elk Grove Unified Police arrested two students on suspicion of discharge and possession of pepper spray.
