Christian Henrietta Caroline Acland, usually known as Lady Harriet Acland (January 1750-21 July 1815) was the wife of Major John Dyke Acland and the daughter of the first Earl of Ilchester.
He was the commander of the British grenadiers in the Battle of Stillwater during the American Revolutionary War. After the battle, Lady Harriet heard that her husband, who had been taken prisoner, was mortally wounded. She went to great lengths to cross the Atlantic Ocean to look for him.
She was treated there with great kindness, and her husband, who had been shot through both legs, soon got well under her careful nursing. The next year they went back to England, where Major Acland soon died on October 31, 1778.
Lady Harriet died when she was sixty-six years old, at Tetton, near Taunton.
