Harold Reginald Newgass

Temporary Lieutenant Harold Reginald Newgass of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve attached to HMS President was awarded the George Cross for the "great gallantry and undaunted devotion to duty" he showed in defusing a mine which had fallen into a gas holder at the Garston Gas Works in Liverpool.

His citation was published in the London Gazette on the 4th of March, 1941. He was born on the 3rd of August 1899 and had previously served with the Territorial Army attached to the Royal Artillery from 1918 to 1934. [1]
