Harland Stonecipher, founded Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., a legal service plan company, after an accident which was not his fault left him with costly legal bills. He had auto insurance, medical insurance, and life insurance. The only type of protection he didn’t have was for legal services. Mr. Stonecipher started what would become Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., in 1972, with a vision to make legal services accessible to millions of Americans.
Harland Stonecipher is currently the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and Chairman of Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. and has been since 1972.
Mr. Stonecipher currently sits on the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He was appointed to his third term of this position on June 20, 2007.
On May 1, 2006, he was awarded the 2006 Distinguished Entrepreneur of Oklahoma award. [1]
On September 11, 2006, Pre-Paid announced a settlement on the Barbara Booth v. Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. case. [2]
