Hardcore tuning is an alternate tuning for an electric guitar. It is uncommon, but it is still used by hardcore, grindcore, and some metalcore bands. The lowest four strings are tuned the same way as they would be in Drop C tuning. The highest two strings, though, are tuned to A and B♭' or vice versa, depending on the guitarist's preference. The result is either C-G-C-F-A-B♭' or C-G-C-F-B♭'-A. This tuning allows the guitarist to create the harsh dissonance of the minor second interval.
[edit] Examples
Groups that have used this tuning:
- Drop Dead, Gorgeous
- The Devil Wears Prada
- The Locust
- Sinai Beach
- Norma Jean's guitarists also use this tuning, but with all strings tuned a half-step (semitone) higher.
