Hard dance

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hard Dance is an umbrella term that refers to the grouping of modern electronic dance music genres. The term usually includes genres such as UK Hard House, Hard NRG, Hard Trance, Hardstyle, UK Hardcore and Freeform Hardcore. Additional genres such as Psychedelic Trance, Techno, Jumpstyle and Scouse House (Bouncy Hard House) are sometimes included in this capacity. The tempo within Hard Dance usually ranges from 135 BPM (Hard House) to 190 BPM (Freeform Hardcore).

[edit] Alternative Meaning

Hard Dance has an alternative meaning to some, where the name is indicative of a sub-genre of electronic dance music. In this case, the style of music is one where the lines between some of the above mentioned genres are so blurred that it becomes near impossible to attribute it to only one genre. A common example would be a Hard House / Hard Trance cross-over. However, it is important to note that this view is snubbed by many of the old guard within the scene and seen as an attempt to rebrand & repackage an established product.
